Business outline of "fumarole rental"

/Unused fumarole is rented from the hot spring wells owner to generate electricity from an eco and clean source of energy (geothermal power)
/Fumarole rental (including installation site) is a new type of small-scale power generation business model aiming to minimize customer risk
/One stop solution (in cooperation with company with expertise) available to answer your questions regarding issues such as depletion of hot spring yields and change of spring quality.
/With the strong support from the administration (country / prefecture / city), we strive to grow with the region while cherishing our bonds with the local community.
The goals of the "NCH System" are as follows
  • Aggregation of regional geothermal power generation management system
  • Securing regional resources, revitalizing the region
  • Employment creation
  • Ensuring improvement of introduction technology ⇒ Packaging of power generation system
  • Cooperation with local companies, horizontal division of labor
  • Tourism resources conversion, acceptance of visit

“The age of renting fumarole is here”

Underneath the crust of Japan lies an abundant geothermal resource estimated to be around 23.47 million kW, 3rd in the world after the United States and Indonesia in terms of availability. Sadly however, only 530,000 kW is generated using by utilizing geothermal resources (placing Japan 10th in the world in terms of generation), 2% of the available amount and covering merely 0.3% of the national demand of electricity. The government is taking various measures to triplicate this percentage to 1% by 2030. In reality, however, there still exists numerous obstacles to overcome, including an average of 14 years to commercialize geothermal power generation, difficulties in candidate sites selection, and opposition from local residents. Oita Prefecture, home to 4,411 well heads with the total yields of 285,553l annually, and Beppu city, with 2,294 well heads and 87,067l annual yields, are respectively Japan’s number one prefecture and municipal in terms of hot spring potential. In order to contribute to the development of geothermal power generation, our company developed Fumarole rental business model, making use of the existing high temperature hot springs for electricity generation.

The geothermal power plant we first worked on

(No.1 project) Goiyuen geothermal power station Operation started in January 2014
The Goiyuen geothermal power station started construction work on July 31, 2013, was certified as a renewable energy generation facility on October 22 of the same year, and started generating electricity on January 17, 2014. The facility is equipped with 2 binary generator units (Capacity 60kW each) designed and selected based on information from preliminary survey and estimation of available steam amount. During the planning stages, we applied the plant for a public recruitment from Oita Prefecture and ultimate were recognized as ‘New energy introduction acceleration model project’.
Location: Beppu-shi Oita prefecture 1494-1 Minami-Akashi 5 minutes by car from Beppu IC
Located in the mountainous area at the foot of Tsurumidake. This is part of Horita Onsen area, one of Beppu’s famous Hattou Hot Springs.

Results of electricity generation
As of the end of October 2015, approximately one year and ten months after the start of power generation, the cumulative power generation amount is 731,500 kWh, average generation power output is 46.2 kW. The purchase price of geothermal power generation in the renewable energy fixed price acquisition system is 26 yen / kW + tax for power generation equipment with 15,000 kW and 40 yen / kW when less than 15,000 kW. The contracted purchase period is 15 years. For Goiyuen Geothermal Power Plant, when calculated based on the cumulative power generation amount, the electricity sales is \ 29,260,000 - (excluding tax).

Soon after the second geothermal power station started operation

(No.2 project) Yuuyama Geothermal Power Station Operation started in October 2014
The Yuuyama power plant rents an existing hot spring source and is established in a private property. Construction started on May 7, 2014 while the plant was certified as a renewable energy generation facility on July 11. Power generation began on 30th October, 2014.

Location: Oita Beppu City Yuuyama 4 kumi Oita Expressway; 15 minutes by car From Beppu IC Route 500 towards Juumonjibaru SA. The power station lies within the far-reaching plateau of Yuuyama village. The east of the facility is blessed the scenic beauty of Beppu Bay.

Results of electricity generation
The cumulative amount of power generation at the end of October, 2015 about one year after the start of power generation is 410,500 kWh, average generated power output is 71.4 kW. For Yuyama Geothermal Power Plant, when calculated by cumulative power generation amount, the electricity sales is \ 16,420,000 - (excluding tax).
